About Cruise Price Drops

Hi, I’m Wes Godwin. I built Cruise Price Drops, and I run it through my company, ByteBunny LLC.

Why I built it

My family travels a lot, and cruises are a big part of that. We’ve sailed with Norwegian, Carnival and Royal Caribbean, and Royal Caribbean is our favorite. Icon of the Seas is the ship we keep wanting to go back to.

Before every cruise I found myself checking Cruise Planner over and over, looking for a sale on the drink package, the internet or an excursion. Prices change all the time, and if you catch a drop before you sail you can usually cancel and buy again at the lower price. The tools we used to keep an eye on those prices were no longer available, so I built my own. I figured other cruisers would want it too.

How it works

Pick your ship and sail date and you’ll see the public Cruise Planner prices for that sailing: drink packages, internet, dining, excursions, the spa and more. Choose Watch on anything you might buy and tell us when you want to hear about it. We check prices twice a day and email you when one moves the way you asked.

We never ask for your Royal Caribbean login or reservation number, and we never buy or cancel anything for you. If a price check fails, you won’t get an alert from it. You can read more in the FAQ.

Who I am

I’m a software developer with a degree in Computer Science, several industry certifications and more than 20 years of experience, both with companies and through my own contract work. In 2007 I started my first company, which sent emergency text alerts to students, faculty and staff. Getting the right message to people at the right time is something I’ve cared about ever since.

Since then I’ve built video streaming for K12 classrooms, hospital rooms and airlines, flight information displays for airports, digital signage for hospitals and businesses, an RFID system for secure child pickup at elementary schools, and a patient portal. I’ve also helped run the phone systems and networks for more than 4,000 independent pharmacies and hospitals across the country.

Today I work as an AWS and Google Cloud engineer. I focus on serverless and cloud development, help small companies move their systems to the cloud, and build AI tools such as MCP servers and agent workflows. Cruise Price Drops runs on that same serverless setup on AWS. Through ByteBunny we also make DuckTracks, a social platform for rubber ducks; nanocart, a shopping cart for online stores; and Simulcast.live for online streamers. I like tinkering with hardware too, mostly ESP32 boards and Raspberry Pis.

Away from the keyboard

When I’m not at a computer, I’m usually behind a camera. I’m a travel and event photographer and videographer, and that work takes me all over the country. My wife, our three kids and I live in Upstate South Carolina. We plan a lot of our cruises around snorkeling, and our favorite spot so far is West Bay Beach in Roatán. To unwind, I play Call of Duty on Xbox.

Any ads or affiliate links, like hotels near your departure port, help pay for the servers, the price checks and the emails. They never change the prices we show or the alerts we send.
